Halsey gave a stunning performance at this year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, but her comments and calling out the company on Instagram might have been more stunning.
The show, which aired Sunday, was filmed last month in New York City. At that time a few controversial comments were made by Ed Razek, the chief marketing officer for Victoria’s Secret’s parent company, in a November interview with Vogue. Razek was asked about competitive brands “that are putting trans women in their advertisements” and “women who are size 40.” Razek responded, “If you’re asking if we’ve considered putting a transgender model in the show or looked at putting a plus-size model in the show, we have.”
What he went on to say caused a stir within communities and did not go over well.
“Shouldn’t you have transsexuals in the show? No, I don’t think we should,” Razek said. “Well, why not? Because the show is a fantasy. It’s a 42-minute entertainment special. That’s what it is.” The term “transsexuals” is considered out dated and offensive to many in the LGBTQ community. CLICK HERE to read the interview from Vogue.
Halsey took to her Instagram account Sunday with a post that seemed aimed at Razek and his comments.
Halsey also noted that she made a “sizable donation” in honor of “youth targeted by these comments in a world where they have been made to feel ‘other’.”
