Another shocking misconduct allegation, this time involving Def Jam Recordings co-founder Russell Simmons.
According to The Seattle Times.com, Simmons announced today (Nov.30) that he will step down from his roles in “all the companies I founded,” after a second woman accused him of sexual assault.
A published letter by writer Jenny Lumet in The Hollywood Reporter, Simmons issued a statement that he would be “removing” himself from all of his companies and acknowledges Lumet’s allegation, but only admits to being “thoughtless and insensitive in some of my relationships over many decades.” The aftermath from the allegations has HBO and JC Penny’s severing ties to Simmons.
HBO released a statement today, “HBO will be airing ‘All Def Comedy’ as planned. However, Russell Simmons will not appear in the new series and we will be removing his name from the show moving forward,” the TV service’s statement read. Also J.C. Penney has already removed the products for purchase on its website.
