Lizzo Celebrates her First #1 On Billboard with ‘Truth Hurts’

Lizzo is enjoying being “Lizzo” as she celebrates her first number-one record.

The Detroit-born singer-songwriter’s record “Truth Hurts,” which released nearly two years to the day (September 19, 2017), finally topped the Billboard Hot 100 this week. According to Billboard, Lizzo’s uplifting track rises from No. 3 and will take its reigning rank on the chart (dated September 7).

The rapper/musician also gave herself — and her fans — a well-deserved shout-out on Twitter to mark the accomplishment.

Lizzo’s new leader record comes weeks after the star performed her hit at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards on August 26. In case you’re unsure of the magnitude of this moment, the sleeper-hit beat out some pretty tough competitors, including Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello‘s “Senorita” and Billie Eilish‘s “Bad Guy.”
