At last night’s (February 21) BRIT Awards, fans around the world had one question. What is up with that conspicuous ring on Ed Sheeran’s left ring finger? It’s not what we thought.

Speculation showers social media as flocks of fans believed there were a secret ceremony for Sheeran’s nuptials. You could also see the “ring” during the show as he stood at the podium, accepting the Global Success Award. However, the singer cleared up all confusion with an explanation that the ring is indeed a symbol of his love but not a wedding ring.

“I never saw why men didn’t wear engagement rings. It’s the same commitment either way,” he told British talk show Lorraine, as per EW. “Cherry made it for me herself out of silver clay. I really like it.”
